Happy Christmas

The end of the year is always a very exciting time for us at Little Tulips!

We are thankful for all that we have been privileged to experience over the past several months, and we are very proud of all that our children have accomplished.

We celebrated this week with our annual Christmas party, and we were happy to welcome parents and siblings to our Family Child Care home. We had a wonderful visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, and our little ones were thrilled to see them!

Snow Days

After the late Winter storm we just had, and with more snow on the way, we have to find creative ways to enjoy it! When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. When life gives us 50 cm of snow.. we eat it! That’s right! Today, we made Snow Ice Cream!

DSC_6199sI found this recipe HERE.

recipeThis is an easy, quick and super fun activity to do with kids.

You need just four simple ingredients, and a big bowl of fresh snow!

DSC_6160sMake sure to get the snow from a clean, untouched area. There’s tons of it out there!

DSC_6219sMix all ingredients until it’s a nice “ice-cream-ish” consistency.

DSC_6147sThen top with sprinkles, and serve to the little ones – and yourself!  Enjoy!

DSC_6156sDSC_6153sDSC_6189sOf course, we were also celebrating St. Patrick’s Day today! We all wore green and danced jigs and reels to some fabulous Irish Newfoundland tunes. Erin go Bragh!

May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life’s passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!

Day Care Dance-A-Thon

On Friday, February 13, Little Tulips Family Child Care participated in the 16th Annual Kids Helping Kids Day Care Dance-A-Thon!

Proceeds from this event go to the Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre to help provide our province’s sick and injured children with the best possible care.

Our little group danced their hearts out and raised an incredible $650.00!!!

We want to thank everyone who sponsored our children. On behalf of Little Tulips, the Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre and the many families that will benefit from your gift, thank you for your kindness and caring.

We Wish You a Merry Christmas!

It is another magical holiday season, and at Little Tulips Family Child Care, we are celebrating in a big way. Our little ones have been busy getting into the holiday spirit, baking cookies, decorating the tree and making Christmas crafts. This is such a fun time of year, and we appreciate being able to spend this time with such a wonderful group of children.

Santa came to visit this week, bringing toys and goodies and Christmas cheer to our home. It is a hectic time, but we hope that you will all be able to rest and relax and enjoy the holiday with your families. It’s been a very full and exciting year for us, and we look forward to 2015, as we prepare for a new year full of blessings.

Get Outside!

TMODay_WebsiteOctober 29th is Take Me Outside Day 2014, and at Little Tulips Family Child Care, we are committed to spending at least one hour outside!

Take Me Outside Day, in partnership with The David Suzuki Foundation and The Child and Nature Alliance of Canada, is an opportunity for schools across Canada and around the world to show the importance of getting outside.  It’s a day to support education extending beyond four walls and a desk!

Last year, Take Me Outside Day had approximately 500 schools participate. This year, David Suzuki will be supporting this initiative and joining along with hundreds of schools across the country and around the world to help raise awareness about the importance of spending more time outside.

Research shows that outdoor play in a natural setting makes kids healthier and happier, and we love healthy, happy kids! Children are naturally drawn to active play outdoors. It allows them to explore their environment, develop strength and coordination, and gain self-confidence. The outdoors is the very best place for preschoolers to practice and master physical development skills like running, jumping and climbing. Outdoor play also contributes to social / emotional development, when children are free to express themselves and learn about the world in their own way.

Aside from the physical, social, and health benefits that we know to be true, playing outside is FUN! So, get out there!

Jamarama 2014

10443245_797670626921796_8683938759494389073_oOn Friday, October 17th, the children and staff at Little Tulips Family Child Care wore their pajamas and raised $100 for the Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation!

For us, Jamarama was a fun day in our comfy jammies, but for some kids it means so much more. We are thankful for the services we have received at the Janeway, and we are happy to support such an important cause. The money raised for the Janeway Children’s Hospital through Jamarama provides the children of our province with the best care possible. Your donations are greatly appreciated!

Spring has Sprung!

Spring has finally arrived at Little Tulips Family Child Care! The weather is warming up and we have been able to get outside and do some gardening!

Gardening is an exciting activity for all children. We embrace any opportunity for hands-on learning, and exploring nature is a perfect example of that.  Because our program includes children with and without special needs, we plan our activities to cover a broad range of developmental levels, always with a focus on sensory experiences.

This week, we got our hands dirty. We dug holes, spread soil, selected plants and flowers and decided where they would go. We tucked them in and covered their roots, then sprinkled the soil with water. Our children were involved in every step, and they loved every minute of it! Every day we check on our flowers to see how they are doing.

Our children are proud of our garden, and the work that they put into it. We are proud of them for all of their effort and enthusiasm!

Puppy Love

This week, we were happy to welcome the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dogs back to our centre!  Our children just loved their first visit with us, and they were excited to see the little dogs again! These pups are so affectionate and friendly.  It was a great way to brighten up a rainy day!

Thank you, Panda, Missy and Abby.  We look forward to seeing you again!
